Rip the tail off a lizard – It will grow a new tail - everything necessary to regenerate a whole lizard contained in this reptilian fragment, and I can only hope my heart will share the same survival instinct when you tell me you want to rip the tail off.

Heck of a lead in. Then you leave us hanging by a tale.

Life is too short for gentle openings, you know? Gotta leave the reader hanging by the tale/tail.

possibly the hardest hitting poem I’ve read recently.

Thanks! When the prompt says start and end with the same line, better make it a memorable one, ya know?

That’s a rough one. Ouch!

Tough on lizards and lovers. The lizards just recover better

such reptilian savagery; terrific; being torn asunder metaphorically or otherwise is never pleasant —

True, but sometimes, a savage poetic gut-punch is oddly satisfying. I had to go for it.

fully agree: sometimes our best poems are written from anger or vindictiveness, the dark side —

I hear ya. Sometimes, life is too short for gentle, mild-mannered poems!

bunnies recover too but would you? 😂💖

Ouch. Now that’s just cruel. Although arguably no crueler than doing the same thing to the lizards.
I wrote the opening line so that I’d be able to use it again as the last line per David’s prompt this week, but re-reading it, I am thinking I should reword this. I don’t want to give the impression of encouraging animal cruelty!

I know my neighbor pulled my bunnies tail off. It didn’t seem to bother it idk
Oh no worries. I think they grow right back. Never phase the lizard 🦎 ha

Well, that is comforting. Still, I fear some troll will stumble upon this blog, take the line out of context, decide I’m encouraging needless animal cruelty. Ah, the internet…

Well, there’s that?!? Always one… but can we be bothering. with that said.. take it out if you feel uncomfortable with it. In a comment in a collab i said we can make it a 3some and my friend didn’t think it was a good idea. I thought it hilarious.. I took it out but if it was just me, I’d a left it. trust your gut.
and animal rights don’t get me started. I can’t walk the salamander flats nemore with my dog cuz of the protection of. oye vey~💖

Hahaha! I think your collab threesome sounds hilarious! People are too serious sometimes. I just found your recent Fri-Yay musical collab with Tim and I thought it was wonderful.

Thanks! Decided to go visceral and violent today for my repeated first & last line for the prompt. No time for niceties.

Whew. No lizards were harmed in the writing of this poem. 🦎

No lovers were harmed either, at least not for the purpose of writing this poem.

Even if you didn’t intend it that way, I’m going to take this one as a compliment. I kinda love with a poem gives you a reaction like that.
