She pats on Hourglass Primer, smoothing over pores.
Pencils in her brows with Revlon Brow Fantasy,
CoverGirl mascara for body and volume.
Face complete, she looks
at the half-emptied room –
There is nothing to cover up these negative spaces
of a life turned upside-down

For Go Dog Go Cafe and dVerse (I cheated and used the homophone “brows” – I couldn’t resist!)
Sure, there’s nothing to cover up. What a noteworthy piece! Amazing 🌺 ❤

In your case, a little homophone cheating is delightful.

All’s fair in love, war, and poetry right? I couldn’t resist a bit of rule-twisting. Glad you enjoyed

A painful revelation that can’t be hidden. Nice one! So creative. 🙂

Exactly! A skilled hand with a makeup brush covers many things and yet…

Thank you for the feedback, the prompt inspiration, and for humoring me as I twisted the rules and used the homophone. In offline life, I’m a bit of a beauty product junkie; I heard “brows” and I couldn’t not do a makeup poem, you know?

I don’t care if I can hide the negative spaces or not, you’ll never see me leave the house without makeup! Heaven help you if you see me inside the house though.

Ooh, another beauty junkie! This could be fun. Tell me your product recommendations! I’m currently wearing MAC Pro Longwear Foundation and I’m a fan. Also rediscovered Revlon Super Lustrous Lip in Rum Raisin, which was my Grandma’s shade.

I buy based on these three considerations: 1. Will it make me break out, 2. Is it the right color, and 3. Will it wash off? I use Clinique “Even Better” serum liquid foundation which doesn’t break me out. I use their gel moisturizer. I like drugstore stuff too. I’ve gotten burned many a time by department store products. I like Elf liquid eyeliner because it stays on but washes off super easily. (I’m one of those daily inadvertently asymmetrical cat eye liner people.)

I like drugstore too – there are some really good, inexpensive finds. Liquid eyeliner is always tricky. I have more luck with a brush tip vs. a felt tip, but I’m also not aiming for perfect symmetry. I like to pretend that wearing glasses hides some asymmetrical sins even though that does not make any sense.

I have no skills with brushes whatsoever, so I rely on the magic glasses thing too. I think it’s the same mentality pets have when they hide only their head under a blanket not realizing you can see the rest of them.

Hah, good analogy. Yes, exactly like a pet not understanding how to hide!

Oh and I like how you wear your grandma’s color ❤

It wasn’t a deliberate decision, but I found that shade of Revlon one day and remembered it was her go-to shade, and it feels nice to have that connection.

Thank you. Yes, to apply makeup is easy. But there are other things we cannot cover up so easily

I can’t take credit for the stock photo, but I agree it was a good find. I will take credit for cheating on the prompt with a homophone. Thanks!
