And it’s a gut punch, the kind
that makes you re-evaluate
all your entrances and exits,
all the small choices that led you
to this moment, this moment when
you want to cry open
the inner gears of God
and beg for the why.

I SO love the thought of wanting to “cry open” the inner gears of God…as if our cries could somehow pry open the inner workings of His ways…Wonderful.

“cry open” was originally a typo – it was supposed to be “pry open” because that makes logical sense. But then I decided that I really liked “cry open” because it’s that crying out from the soul in ways that defy logic so I kept it. Thank you and thanks for the prompt.

Ha. I thought “pry open” was the intent here, but like you I thought cry open was even better. It’s no good reading poetry with the inner editor still rotating!

You’re not wrong. “Pry open” was the original intent. Then I realized I had “cry open” and I weirdly like the typo better because it just a bit off. I’m all for editing, even (especially) with heartfelt poetry but sometimes, it’s appropriate to ignore the editor

I feel this one in my heart and bones. The world is such a mess at the moment. And although it is good to stay informed, the constant information stream is torturous.

The world is a mess, no question.
I’ve taken to reading the lighter, amusing news stories for entertainment. Sometimes I write funny commentary about them https://jewishyoungprofessional.wordpress.com/category/news-updates/. I find sometimes, you just have to laugh or else you go crazy, you know?

Thanks! I typically write more imagery-driven poetry so this feels different from my usual take.

Way too relatable. Sometimes I don’t realize how deeply angry I am about some things until I start talking about them. Then it’s hard to stop raging.

It is sadly quite relatable. Some things are just so senseless
