Spent all that time constructing the fancy scaffolding I masquerade in, but sometimes, I want to pivot – ground the showy balloons, light the moon on fire and smoke it like a cigarette. Let all the ashy confetti of exploded stars fall where they may.

Whew. Some fantastic imagery here!
LOVE:
“light the moon on fire
and smoke it like a cigarette.”
And this terrific ending:
“Let all the ashy confetti
of exploded stars
fall where they may.”
Wow.

Thank you. I loved that imagery too so I built the whole rest of the poem around that. Thank you for providing some of the prompt inspiration.

I’m liking those exploding stars, many of those “ashes” would be fiery when hit our Earth’s nearness. I have a tiny piece of a meteorite on a necklace chain, it may have been fiery hot and bright as it fell.

I’ll let you in on a secret – originally, I added “ground the showy balloons” because I needed 4 more words to make the word count for one of the prompts! But I came to really like that line!

Great close… I love the reimagining of the ash from the moon cigarette as exploding stars!!!

I like it too. Not at all a scientifically accurate depiction of the relationship between moon and stars, but it certainly makes you think.

Everybody needs to let down their hair sometimes, but few do it quite so poetically!
Thanks for the note about the List. Good to know!

I try to only let down my hair poetically, and not like, by blowing up my professional reputation at work and destroying all interpersonal relationships. Fewer repercussions.
Of course – I appreciate the Word Lists even when I don’t respond publicly.

Smoking the Moon brings up all sorts of imagery. This throws out the whole Moon is made out of cheese theory.

Hehe, true. If this moon were made of cheese, smoking it would just create a big mess. But a tasty one I imagine. Who doesn’t love melted cheese 🧀

WP is always up to something. Apparently, WP still thinks I’m a spambot even though I literally wrote on my About & FAQ page that I am not a spambot, and I even contacted Askimet to try to convince them that I’m a real human – fellow bloggers tell me that my comments wind up in spam. Anyway, no worries! Thank you for the kind feedback!
